AGNES COAKLEY COX
SOPRANO
British-American soprano Agnes Coakley Cox has been praised for her “enchanting, glowing timbre and perfect intonation, with a good helping of theatrical spirit” (Weiler Zeitung). A specialist in early Baroque music. Agnes actively applies historical pronunciation, gesture, and ornamentation to her performances. She is co-founder and co-director of In Stile Moderno, the New England-based ensemble for 17th-century music and collaborates with numerous early music ensembles including Seven Times Salt, La Fiocco, Crescendo, Schola Cantorum of Boston, and the Boston Camerata, and is in demand as a choral musician, appearing this season with Ensemble Altera, the Handel+Haydn Society, the Thirteen, and the Zenith Ensemble. She graduated summa cum laude in Music from Yale University and studied voice, historical performance practice, and pedagogy at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where her teacher and mentor was Evelyn Tubb. Agnes lives in Greenfield, MA with her husband Nathaniel and son Simon. When she is not singing, she can be found knitting, baking, or tackling (minor) DIY projects in their 100-year-old house.
