October 27 & 28, 2018
The image of the cavalier evokes the 17th-century paintings of the dapper man of war, breast-plated, with spurs and wide-brimmed hat. In this program we tip our hat to cavaliers from three centuries, and we are thrilled to have our own “cavalier,” countertenor and recorder player Daniel Moody, an audience favorite, return for this opening concert of the 2018-2019 season. With Tricia van Oers, recorder, Allen Hamrick, recorder and baroque bassoon, Donna Fournier, viola da gamba; John Armato, theorbo, Benjamin Berman, harpsichord, and emerging artist, countertenor Logan Tanner. Lewis R. Baratz, artistic director and recorder. Courtly, sacred, and bawdy music of Josquin des Pres, Andrea Falconieri, Barbara Strozzi, Francesco Turini, Tarquinio Merula, Antonio Cabezón, John Dowland, John Blow, Henry Purcell, Petrus Hercules Brehy, Johann Christian Schickhardt, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
