VITA WALLACE

BAROQUE VIOLIN & REBEC

Vita Wallace is known as a powerful, sensitive, and versatile musician. As a baroque violinist, Vita has been a member of the early music ensembles Philomel (Philadelphia), Foundling (Providence), and Opera Feroce (New York). Currently, she is a member of Anima, ARTEK, and the Dryden Ensemble, leads the Accord-O-Leles (on the accordion), and is often heard accompanying soprano Beth Anne Hatton and mezzo soprano Hayden DeWitt on piano. Early instruments she’s enjoyed learning include the vielle, lira da braccio, viola d’amore and violino piccolo. Vita and her brother, Ishmael, performed, recorded, and taught extensively as the Orfeo Duo for over 20 years. Their recordings, including the complete Beethoven and Schumann sonatas on period instruments, have been described as “singularly passionate” (Early Music) and “daring and fresh” (National Post). These days, to further her mission of cultivating harmony, she is growing hazelnuts near Lambertville, NJ.
